OK!!!! Well, the adventures are catching up with me & I haven't managed to post them all. YIKES! This weekend I went to an Irish festival & did witnessing & face-painting there. We also had a BBQ, went to an open air museum & had a spirit helper dress up night. So I don't think I'll be able to put pics of all these but I'll try....
But stay tuned for an awesome post of an outing my Mom took me on 2 weeks back.
...Back to the Viking Festival....This was quite the event. You don't get more of a cultural Icelandic experience than this. Here's the intro to an article I wrote up for one of our magazine's about this festival(I'll be adding to this shortly):
"A fresh Norse wind blowing on an Icelandic summer day. Clanging of swords. Vendors sporting various handmade clothing, jewelry & food goods. Men walking around in armor & women wearing long…....well, dresses.—with a sort of apron cover/thing over it.
Do these words describe some tale of Norsemen from 1000 years ago? Or maybe some spirit trip I’ve just come back from? No! The time is present day & the occasion is the 10 day Viking festival held every summer in Rekjavik, Iceland, where we would be face-painting & witnessing up a storm. This was the first time the home here participated as a group as an official part of the festival. Besides being an interesting cultural experience, as well as a fun sort of summer outing, this would soon prove to be an excellent opportunity to witness".......
These guys played excellent! I loved it! (let's see if I can manage to post some video clips....cross those fingers)
Mock-fights....pretty well done, actually. Some got quite into it though--slightly worrying!
